Congrats! you have decided to stop relaxing your hair and go au naturale. will you decide to do the big chop where you cut all of your relaxed strands and start from scratch or transition where you let your hair grow out to reserve some length and gradually cut off straight, dead strands of relaxed and heat damaged hair. Either way you are taking the first step to healthy hair!
"The Big Chop"

Pros's:
Low maintenance
One texture
Instant satisfaction
better product results
Growth
Con's
learning your hair all over again
Not to many styles
Insecure
Timely matter
Having to do a big chop takes a lot of determination to let go of your length and challenge your insecurities wondering if you would look right with short hair or not. also tuning out the negative remarks that you might get from others. Once you cut your hair it may take some time to learn your hair all over again. This is where products come into play.
You might think that there aren't many hairstyles to do with short hair. As you know patience is key to healthy hair and growth you will feel satisfied with your decision that you will no longer have to deal with two different textures of hair. You can throw on a wig or wear some protective styles depending on how much hair you have left.
While trying different products you will get a faster result if it works for you or not, unlike when you transition, you might have several products. One for new growth, and another for the damaged ends. Making the decision to chop all your hair off and start fresh can be scary and emotional but don't be afraid, You have a whole community out there that is rooting for you I'm definitely rooting for you! Make the change, Start your journey, Do the chop your hair will thank you!
"Transitioning"

Pro's
Styling options
Length
Ease into your hair journey
Con's
Two different hair textures
Fragile ends
Timely matter
Making the decision to keep your relaxed and damaged ends can be difficult as well. Your
hair has two different hair textures trying to take care of your new growth and your damaged part may take more than one product.
For me, I used "Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Extra-Moisture Transitioning Milk" as my leave in and on wash days I used "Maine 'n Tail Olive Oil Complex Herbal Gro Shampoo" along with the conditioner these three products helped with hair loss, split ends, tame frizz, strengthens and nourishes my extra special hair at that time.
It's important to try to keep both textures damage free and moisturized while transitioning.
Styling your hair while in this state can be difficult if you let it, but for me I developed a routine and kept my hair in protective styles and buns, a whole lot of buns. It took me about a year of growing my hair out and eventually I eased my way into cutting off the dead, chemically processed, and damaged ends. I had to let it go sis! It was hard for me because I wanted length.
Becoming natural is a wonderful journey you find a sense of confidence you thought you never had. If things are a little too hard for you just remember there is a whole community out there to help you. You are not alone!

"It was a long and stressful journey If I had to do it all over again, I would definitely choose to transition. I Have found a new love with my hair." - Asia Hibbler
